Cut butter into tablespoon sizes pieces. Place butter pieces in 9x13 inch baking dish and put in pre-heating oven to melt*
In a medium bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, and milk. Add flour, baking powder and salt. Mix to combine so there are no lumps, but avoid over-mixing.
Once the butter has melted, tilt the baking pan to coat the bottom and sides with butter, then pour the excess butter into the batter, and gently mix until combined. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
Bake for 25-30 minutes, until puffed up on sides and golden across top. Dust with powdered sugar and serve hot.
