If you know me, you know I go big for Halloween, and this year is no different! I just love decorating for Halloween and below is a little recap of some of the fun things we created for this year’s festivities!

Skeleton Barnyard & Pumpkin Patch Graveyard

This year I kept with the barnyard pumpkin patch theme and added in a few new elements too.

We have so many little kiddos in our neighborhood so this side of the yard is designed with them in mind. I want it to be fun and interactive and something they can enjoy day or night. It’s so fun watching them walk by on the way to school throughout the month and comment on each of the characters.

Skeleton Scarecrow – he’s actually made from an old skeleton prop that lost his head! I wired on a light up pumpkin as the head, added clothing and raffia hands and feet, and then added a flower patch around the base for him to protect. Make sure to watch the video to see how he looks at night!

Farmers – we’ve accumulated quite a few skeleton’s throughout the years so this year I decided to dress them up as farmers. We had a cute farmer couple, 1 guy playing a ukulele, and even 1 taking a bath (you can see him in the video). They’re all placed among some skeleton chickens and pets, old wagon wheels and throughout the pumpkin patch graveyard. It was pretty windy this year so we put up most of the grave stones on Halloween since they kept blowing away.

Singing Pumpkins – we’ve been doing these singing pumpkin projections on Halloween from AtmosFX for the last few years and they are always such a hit! They tell jokes, make funny faces, sing songs and more! Kids and adults love them!

Stranger Things themed walkway with floating Max

We like to make things a little scarier on the walkway up to our front door. So, this year we had a Stranger Things theme and everyone loved it! My kids even dressed up as Hell Fire club members for school. We kept the usual graveyard and black lights on the lawn, but once you turned the corner to the front door we had a few new surprises.

First of which were a couple of demogorgon faces and skull head candles that my son and I made. We placed them throughout the plants and they looked so cool in the daylight but were a little hard to see at night. We’ll have to paint them with black light paint if we use them again so they really pop at night. This is the glow paint we love to use for this feature.

We also made the alphabet wall from season 1 and had our version of floating Max from season 4 to the side of the walkway. It gave trick or treaters something else to look at as they walked up to the front door. And, they fit in perfectly with the play list we created to set the vibe of the space.

At the front door we dressed up our usual creepy scarecrow from Spirit Halloween as Vecna and had him guard the candy bowl. He is activated by a step pad placed under the black garden fabric runner we use on the walkway. I surrounded the front door with black camo netting and some large branches we found nearby and had the fog machine behind him to add to the creepy forest vibe and make it feel more like the upside down world on the show. The flame lights really helped with this too!

A few neighborhood kids even hid in the bushes to scare kids walking up the pathway which added to the fun!

Overall we had the best Halloween and can’t wait to do it again next year! Hope you enjoyed seeing what we created and if you have any questions about how we made anything, please let me know in the comments!
